When is Daylight Saving Time in...
Most countries observe Daylight Saving time because it has been determined more daylight hours save energy. Because of different climates and different hemispheres, daylight savings time begins and ends at different times in different countries.
For instance, daylight saving time begins in the U.S. around the same time it ends in New Zealand. This is because the seasons are the opposite below the equator of what they are above the equator. Some countries have long daylight saving time periods, like the U.S. and others have short ones, like Jordan. Interestingly, some countries don't wait until the weekend to turn their clocks ahead and back. Such a country is Egypt. In Egypt, DST starts on May 1st and ends on September 30th and that's it. If it starts on a Monday, you go to work tired, that's all.
What time of day does DST begin and end? Lat's put it this way. The morning daylight saving time begins, there is no such time as 2:00 AM. The next minute that follows 1:59 is 3:00 AM. When daylight saving ends the minute that follows 1:59 AM is 1:00 AM.
Below is a chart showing all the different daylight savings time schedules around the globe.
* Some parts of Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory, do not observe daylight savings.
